The Chairperson of the Presidency of BiH Dr. Dragan Čović held talks with the delegation led by the retired U.S. Army general David Petraeus, the chairperson of one of largest global investment companies Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR), which launched big investment projects on telecommunications and internet services provision in South Eastern Europe.
KKR,
as a big U.S. company, invested over 1.5 billion dollars in BiH and several
other countries of South Eastern Europe, which is a significant message to
other potential investors from Europe and other parts of the world.
In
particular, Dr. Čović pointed out the importance of visibility of investment in
BiH made by companies such as KKR, and informed general Petraeus and other
members of the delegation on BiH's progress on her European path. The
interlocutors agreed that, after submission of the application for membership
in the EU, new possibilities opened up for an enhanced investment momentum in
BiH, which was very much needed at this point.
The
importance was underlined of preserving the continuity of the new reform course
to the EU because a strong message would be send in that way to investors
worldwide that they could have full confidence in BiH, her institutions, and that
they could be confident that their investment and capital would be safe here.
General
Petraeus and the members of the delegation expressed their great satisfaction
because BiH, after a long standstill period, progressed on her European path
and, in this sense, they underlined a huge importance of the EU laws for
regulation in the areas of competitiveness, investment and business environment.
Application of the EU standards in these areas will certainly ensure a better
availability, cost-effectiveness, quality and diversity of all modes of
internet services. It is hugely important to pursue the developmental trends in
the area of digital economy, which brings about resources of increasing importance
for young people. It is in this way that young people can develop their
business activities within BiH, without having to go abroad.
