Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina

During an open and substantive conversation, opinions and views were exchanged on the current political and security situation and the need for the continuous strengthening of the state institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Particular attention was drawn to the importance of responsible and coordinated action by the competent state authorities in preserving peace, security, and stability.

Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of the United States of America John Ginkel briefed Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić on the discussions he had held regarding the possibility of new investments from the United States in the fields of energy, infrastructure, and real estate.

During the meeting, the participants discussed current issues of importance for the development of the City of Goražde, attracting new investments, implementing infrastructure projects, and creating better conditions for young people to remain and find employment.

Opening the gathering at Sarajevo's City Hall (Vijećnica), BiH Presidency Member Komšić emphasized that the attempted military coup of July 15, 2016 ended in a great victory for the Turkish people, the Republic of Türkiye, and democracy. He said that there are facts about the events of July 15 that are not subject to debate, and that it cannot be disputed that this was a victory for the Turkish people, the Turkish state, and the democratic order.

The adoption of the Resolution on Strengthening the Political Position of Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Croatian Parliament does not represent an expression of good-neighbourly cooperation. On the contrary, it is an unacceptable interference in the internal affairs of the sovereign and independent state of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Such actions are not in accordance with the fundamental principles of international law, including the principles of the sovereign equality of states and non-interference in their internal affairs, as enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations (UN).

In his conversation with the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Emin Akseki, Chairman Bećirović said, among other things:

The interlocutors exchanged views on key issues for the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina, including the preservation of the constitutional order, the rule of law, the question of state property, as well as the role and mandate of the Office of the High Representative in ensuring the implementation of peace and stability. The Euro-Atlantic future of Bosnia and Herzegovina was also discussed.

By adopting the Draft Law on the Budget of the Institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the International Obligations of Bosnia and Herzegovina for 2026, the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina has fulfilled its constitutional and legal obligation, enabling the continuation of the budget adoption procedure in the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
