“Bosnia and Herzegovina was a victim of brutal aggression from 1992 to 1995, and is the only country in Europe where genocide was committed after World War II. As a country that survived aggression and genocide against Bosniaks, we fully understand the suffering of the citizens of Ukraine,” said Dr Bećirović.
During his address, he stressed that we are living in a time of profound geopolitical change. Europe is facing one of the most complex and challenging periods in modern history. We are witnessing the destabilization of the global order, geopolitical upheavals, wars, hybrid threats, and growing instability. Connecting the EU with the Western Balkan countries is now more important than ever.
Željko Komšić, Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, attended the Ceremonial Academy marking the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Disabled Volleyball Club "Fantomi" held at Sarajevo City Hall, and, at the invitation of the organizers, delivered an appropriate address.
Distinguished Mr. President, Excellencies, at the outset of my address, I would like to take this opportunity to greet the President of the United Nations (UN) Security Council, the distinguished ambassadors of the UN Security Council member states and other ambassadors, as well as Mr. Christian Schmidt, the High Representative of the international community in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Honourable Deputy Secretary General, dear Radmila, esteemed ambassadors, ladies and gentlemen, at the beginning of my address, as the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, I wish to express gratitude to NATO for its enormous contribution to establishing and preserving peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Excellencies, ladies and gentlemen, undemocratic actors, through hybrid actions, undermine trust in democratic institutions and processes.
The event brought together more than 200 guests from social, economic, diplomatic, political, and cultural spheres, including numerous successful entrepreneurs from Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Republic of Austria, and countries in the region.
Madam President, esteemed members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, ladies and gentlemen, it is my honour, as the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, to address you in the home of European democracy - an institution that has, for decades, safeguarded and promoted fundamental values: human dignity, freedom, equality, and the rule of law.
Citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina at home and abroad, esteemed excellencies, eminences, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen!
