Dr Bećirović expressed his gratitude to President Macron
and the friendly people of the French Republic for their comprehensive
assistance and support to Bosnia and Herzegovina since the country’s
independence. He reminded that 86 French soldiers lost their lives in
peacekeeping missions during the aggression against the Republic of Bosnia and
Herzegovina—an enduring testament to the deep and lasting connection between
the two nations.
Speaking about the current situation in Bosnia and
Herzegovina, Dr Bećirović emphasized that the year 2025 was marked by brutal
attacks on the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the
Dayton–Paris Peace Agreement. He stressed that, in this context, it is of
utmost importance that the French Republic and other strategic partners of
Bosnia and Herzegovina lend their particular support to two key institutions
that guarantee peace and stability—the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and
Herzegovina and the Office of the High Representative of the International
Community (OHR). He underlined that these two institutions have played a
crucial role in protecting the constitutional order and preventing
destabilization of the state, warning that in the coming period, great caution
will be required.
The Member of the Presidency noted the importance of the
French Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ firm condemnation of the adoption of
unconstitutional laws and decisions in BiH of entity Republika Srpska. He also
highlighted the great significance of France’s continued and unwavering
commitment to the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of
Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Dr Bećirović stressed that it is of vital importance for
Bosnia and Herzegovina to become a member of NATO and the European Union (EU)
as soon as possible. He particularly emphasized the important role of the
French Republic, as one of the key members of both NATO and the EU, in
supporting reforms and Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Euro-Atlantic future.
President Emmanuel Macron unequivocally reaffirmed
France’s support for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity
of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He emphasized that the French Republic will continue
to provide strong support for strengthening state institutions, implementing
reforms, and advancing Bosnia and Herzegovina’s path toward NATO and the EU
membership.
At the meeting, Member of the Presidency Dr Denis
Bećirović extended an invitation to President Macron to visit Bosnia and
Herzegovina in 2026.
